Daguerreotype (Promo) from Imogen Murphy on Vimeo.

Here’s a wee promo from a show I’ve been developing for a while. It’s called Daguerreotype and it’s a dark comedy about post mortem photography in late 19th century Ireland.

The synopsis goes:

“Ireland 1880’s. Ireland’s most successful post mortem photographer and his assistant secure their most lucrative job yet in a quiet midlands village. As their appointments grow and their stay stretches, they begin to suspect they are documenting something more sinister than they could ever have imagined.”

It stars the talented trio of David McSavage, Emmet Kirwan and Aoibhínn McGinnity. Whether we get to turn it into a full series, who knows? It’s a crazy business, this telling costly stories lark.

Writer Vs Tree

Here’s the first clip of a new short film I did some work on earlier this year.

It’s called Tobias and The Tree and it’s written and directed by the very talented Fergal Costello. It’s described as: The strange tale about a man, and the tree that wants him dead.

I play the lead character Tobias, a writer who travels to a remote country getaway to write his new novel but ends up in a deadly feud with, yes, a tree. It’s a really sweet comedy/horror hybrid and it was probably the best fun I’ve had making a film. Definitely the best fun I’ve had going one on one with a tree anyway.

Here’s the first clip from it:

Hot Water Bottle

This is the poster for a film I made called Hot Water Bottle.

It was designed by Paddy Dunne, one of the producers on the film. The other producer is Alan Slattery. The three of us also made the webcom Vultures.

It’s the first non Vultures creative project that Mycrofilms have undertaken. The second is Baby Love by Terrence White which is out later this year. Two more short films will go into production for 2012 and they’re probably going to be even better because that’s how these things roll.

We got the funding to shoot Hot Water Bottle in 2009. We started shooting it in 2010. We finished shooting it in 2011. There will be a trailer for it sometime very, very soon. The film itself is currently being sent out to a variety of festivals who may or may not want to show it to people.

I will write more about it in proportion to the amount of content I have to show off.
